Lake Districts
Is it the right choice for Moose Lake?
What is a Lake District?
A Lake District is a government entity with the power to charge additional taxes. It performs tasks related to the maintenance of the lake.
How is this different from the MLAA?
The current Moose Lake Advancement Association is a voluntary organization that already handles tasks such as milfoil treatment. A Lake District would require all residents on the lake to pay taxes for it to function.
How much could this cost?
Lake Districts have the authority to charge additional taxes. For a special project like the water level modification suggested in a recent MLAA meeting, this could potentially be thousands of dollars added to your taxes.
How would this process begin?
A petition will need to be circulated to all property owners on Moose Lake to even begin the process of creating the Lake District. If you don't like the sound of this, you can just say "No, thank you"!
